Makura Sync — Terms of Use

Effective: June 2026

These terms govern your use of the Makura Sync subscription service (“the Service”) within the Makura Book app (“the App”), operated by Arseny Teramachi. By subscribing, you agree to these terms alongside the applicable store’s standard terms (Apple / Google Play).

1. What the Service Provides

Makura Sync is a monthly auto-renewable subscription that provides:

• Cross-device sync — your reading positions, library (works and archive state), and manual bookmarks are synchronized across all your devices.
• Ad removal — all advertising is disabled by default while your subscription is active. The ad SDK is not even initialized.

The subscription does not affect the App’s core reading functionality, which is available without a subscription.

2. Pricing and Billing

• Price: ¥100/month ($0.99/month, €0.99/month). Exact pricing in your currency is shown in the App before purchase.
• Free trial: 30 days, starting on your first sign-in. One trial per account, regardless of the number of linked sign-in methods or devices.
• Billing: handled entirely by the platform store (App Store or Google Play). We do not process or store payment information.
• Renewal: the subscription renews automatically each month unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Cancellation: cancel at any time through your platform store’s subscription management. You retain access until the end of the paid period.

3. Accounts and Devices

• Sign in with Google or Apple to create your account.
• Link up to 10 sign-in methods (any combination of Google and Apple) to one account.
• All devices signed in with any linked account share the same library and reading positions.
• Subscribing on any one account activates the Service for all linked devices.

4. Data and Retention

• What is synced: library entries (title, author, source, archive state), reading positions (chapter + offset), and manual bookmarks (position + label).
• What is not synced: chapter content from network sources (each device downloads independently), page flip events, reading speed data, app settings.
• During subscription: all sync data is retained.
• After trial or subscription ends: sync stops, but your data is retained on our servers for 180 days. Subscribing or resubscribing within that period restores full access. After 180 days, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted.

5. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the App (Settings → Sync → Delete account). Deletion is immediate and irreversible: your account, all linked sign-in methods, all devices, all sync data, and all uploaded files are permanently removed from our servers.

Account deletion does not cancel your platform store subscription — you must cancel separately through the App Store or Google Play.

6. Service Availability

The Service depends on backend infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers). We make reasonable efforts to keep the service available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Sync failures are transient — the App retries automatically, and no data is lost during an outage.

7. Content

The App reads publicly available web pages and public-domain literature at your direction. We do not host, curate, or redistribute any third-party content. We are not responsible for the content you choose to read or its availability.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated through the App. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
